Message from David Abrams, President

We usually take a hiatus with this e-newsletter during August,
but wanted to give you some brief updates on the
teleconference. Please watch your e-mailbox for the
September issue, which will arrive on Wednesday,
September 8. We'll be featuring an interview with Dr.
Kenneth J. Doka, which will focus on end-of-life
decision making and ways that clergy are being better
educated to help in that process.

Date Set for Twelfth Annual National Bereavement Teleconference
------------------------------------------------------------
HFA's 12th Annual National Bereavement Teleconference will
focus on "Living With Grief: Ethical Dilemmas at the
End of Life." The live-via-satellite program, moderated
by Cokie Roberts, will be broadcast Wednesday, April
20, 2005 from 1:30pm to 4:00pm EDT. The teleconference
will examine issues regarding the social perspectives
of medical ethics and how various health care settings
may influence ethical decisions at the end of life. A
distinguished panel of ethicists, educators,
gerontologists and hospice experts will define,
differentiate and demonstrate the interrelationships
between values, ethics and law, and examine how
cultural differences may influence ethical choices.
The teleconference is seen each year by more than 100,000
people in over 2,000 communities in the U.S. and
Canada. If you work with other organizations at the
local or national level that would be interested in
this year's topic, please pass along information about
the teleconference to them. If you belong to any professional
associations whose members would benefit from knowing
about the program, please contact us at telecon@hospicefoundation.org
and we would be happy to share information with them.
Registration for organizations hosting the teleconference
will begin in late September; more information and an
online registration form will be available at that
time. Please watch the Site Coordinator's Corner of
this e-newsletter for updates.
